ICCB-ECCB 2015

27th International Congress for Conservation Biology - 4th European Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB-ECCB 2015): Mission Biodiversity: Choosing new paths for conservation, held on 2-6 August 2015, in Montpellier, France.

The ESENIAS-TOOLS project and the possibilities for regional cooperation towards biodiversity conservation were presented at the ICCB-ECCB 2015 Congress.

The joint International Congress for Conservation Biology and European Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB-ECCB) is a forum for addressing conservation challenges and for presenting new research and developments in conservation science and practice. The meeting theme, Mission Biodiversity: Choosing new paths for conservation, is a response to indications that many traditional methods for conserving biodiversity have proved unsuccessful. It emphasises that the rapid and ongoing biophysical and societal changes are affecting the way science and practice conservationhave been donetoday. Recently, different challenges have been faced, such as new pathogens and invasive species, as well as the illegal trade of species on the Internet. The ICCB-ECCB brought together the international community of conservation professionals, including natural and social scientists and students of conservation biology from more than 100 countries, to present new findings, initiatives, methods, and tools to address these challenges.

Prof. Ahmet Uludag presented our poster ‘ESENIAS-TOOLS: Regional initiative to conserve biodiversity’ suggesting that local and regional solutions are among the new paths for conservation in global level. He attended sessions on alien and invasive species, citizen science, networking, agriculture and conservation, sustainable agriculture and forestry, policy and ethics, where he had the chance to meet many colleagues from different groups of the Society for Conservation Biology working on invasive alien species, biodiversity and conservation (e.g. Mediterranean and European groups) and to communicate about our project and networking.
