IPPC 2015

ESENIAS-TOOLS participated in the XVIII. International Plant Protection Congress 2015 (IPPC 2015): Mission possible: food for all through appropriate plant protection held on 24-27 August 2015, in Berlin, Germany.

The Congress was organised by the International Association for the Plant Protection Sciences (IAPPS) and German organisations. It was attended by more than 1200 delegates of over 95 countries. The headline of the congress was ‘Mission possible: food for all through appropriate plant protection’. Invasive alien species (IAS) have been included as presentations in many sections although the concern was their pest features. However, there were specific sessions dedicated to the invasive alien species management, and new and emerged pests and diseases. Some IAS, such as Tuta absoluta and Drosophila suzukii, were discussed in specific sessions.

Prof. Ahmet Uludag and Prof. Rumen Tomov presented the poster ‘ESENIAS-TOOLS: A project as a result of regional networking’, which focused on importance of networks and details of the project. The project and its regional importance were further discussed in the working sessions ‘Workshop on Spotted Wing Drosophila Management in Berry and Cherry Crops’ and ‘Management of the South American Leafminer, Tuta absoluta’. Prof. Rumen Tomov gave a talk on ‘Monitoring of exotic fruit fly species in Bulgaria’. Valuable contacts with colleagues from the ESENIAS region, North Africa and other areas were established.
