Case study 2: Rila Mountain field trip (October 2015)

 

 

Case study 2 (Bulgaria): Diatom sampling in the Rila Mountains, Bulgaria, 30 October - 01 November 2015

 

In the framework of Case study 2 (Comparative study on the effect of hydrological regime on the distribution of the invasive diatom Didymosphenia geminata in extreme environments), a second field trip to collect diatom samples was organised in the Rila Mountains on 30 October - 1 November 2015.

 

Prof. Dr. Nadja Ognjanova and Ivan Botev from the Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research,  Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBER-BAS), Konstantin Samardjiev, Bulgaria, and Asst. Prof. Dr. David Finger from the Reykjavik University, Iceland, participated in the field trip. Epilithic diatom samples were collected at 15 sites from seven high-mountain lakes in the Rila Mountains (see a scheme of the lakes and sampling sites below).
