IAS Project Romania

 

 

One of the big national IAS projects in the ESENIAS region is ongoing currently in Romania: Project POIM2014 + 120008 – Adequate management of invasive species in Romania, in accordance with EU Regulation 1143/2014 on the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species.

 

The project is coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Waters and Forests of Romania and the University of Bucharest. Its duration is 48 months (2018–2022).

 

The general objective of the project is to create the necessary scientific and administrative tools for the efficient management of invasive species in Romania, in accordance with the EU Regulation 1143/2014 on the prevention and management of the introduction and spread of invasive alien species. It has five specific objectives, as follows:

  1. Inventory – mapping of invasive alien species (plants, invertebrates, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals) and elaboration of the national list of IAS.
  2. Identifying the priority introduction pathways and prioritising the IAS in Romania.
  3. Implementation of an action plan to address priority pathways of introduction of IAS in Romania.
  4. Increasing the level of awareness regarding IAS in Romania
  5. Development of the administrative and scientific capacity of authorities and research institutes for the efficient management of IAS.
